Darlene Burns

"I have to write! If I don't, my characters feel neglected!"

Darlene Burns grew up in Los Angeles, California. She first attended L.A. Valley College to study Oceanography, but soon realized her true passion was creative writing and telling a good story. Coming from a family of talented women, she put her writing dreams on hold to raise her children — then returned to her craft once they were older, determined to become one of the women she had always admired.

Her first novel was published in 2012, and the journey since has come with obstacles, pitfalls, and hard-won victories. Darlene's true passion is reading and researching every element of the supernatural. She fell in love with the old horror films featuring Vincent Price and Bela Lugosi, and that love bleeds into the worlds she creates on the page.

Through Purple Scalez LLC, Darlene works with showrunners, producers, founders, and private clients to develop original screenplays, proof of concepts, and full-length books. Her work spans literary fiction, memoir, and television — all connected by a belief in craft, patience, and respect for the reader.
